The APS is delighted to announce this joint international workshop in partnership with the Health and Environmental Services Institute (HESI). The symposium will feature short talks and case studies on topics ranging from “the biology of alveolar macrophages responses?” to “regulatory perspectives on drug-induced alveolar macrophage responses”. Small work groups will be used to explore current practices and their scientific basis, opportunities and challenges, and the potential of new methods to advance the field. The aim of the workshop is to bring together global groups working in this area to generate and publish a consensus on the scientific position regarding drug-induced macrophage responses during inhaled product development. The scope of the problem, current shortcomings and new approaches to discriminating adverse macrophage responses will be reviewed. Best practice, research priorities and new approaches will be advocated based on consensus reached at the workshop
