Dr Euphemia Mutasa-Gottgens

My main professional interest is in translational research; in particular the application of crop science to practical agriculture and the exploitation of publically available “Big Data" resources to support bio-industries in developing new products and services.  Effective knowledge transfer, provision of appropriate tools and training are all vital for the efficient uptake and commercialisation of research innovations in crop and agricultural sciences as well as in data capture, storage, management and processing to extract value. These are important functions of my role on research with Avice Hall in collaboration with NIAB  and KisanHub on a web-based early warning system for infection risk in strawberry crops from Strawberry Powdery Mildew Disease.  Knowledge exchange activity to promote exploitation of "big data" services and resources occupies me outside UH, in my role as Senior Scientific Officer on the EMBL-EBI Industry Programme which also includes active engagement with the pharmaceutical industry. Knowledge management lessons learned in pharma are increasingly being shared with practioners in agri industries.
