Dr Lees-Maffei is Reader in Design History in the School of Creative Arts at the University of Hertfordshire where she coordinates the TVAD Research Group in its work on relationships between text, narrative and image. Grace's published work is available in The Design History Reader (Berg, 2010), Writing Design: Words and Objects (Berg, 2011), Design at Home: Domestic Advice Literature in the UK and the US since 1945 (Routledge, 2013), Made in Italy: Rethinking a Century of Italian Design (Berg, 2013), Iconic Designs: 50 Stories about 50 Things (Berg, 2014) and Reading Graphic Design in Cultural Context: An Introduction (Berg, 2015), and in journals including Women's History Review, Modern Italy and the Journal of Design History, for which she has edited three special issues as well as two for TVAD's double-blind peer reviewed scholarly journal Writing Visual Culture (previously Working Papers on Design). In May 2011, Dr Lees-Maffei was appointed Managing Editor of the Journal of Design History for a five year term, and she previously served the journal as Reviews Editor (2002-6) and Editor (2006-8). In March 2012, Grace was appointed to the Peer Review College of the Arts and Humanities Research Council. She is an Advisory Board member for The Poster (Intellect). Grace was an elected member of the Design History Society from 1998-2002.
