Dr Hossein Saidpour

Overview

  • Hossein Saidpour has been an academic within the School of Engineering and Computer Science, University of Hertfordshire since July 2018. He holds the Personal Chair of Mechanical Engineering from Birmingham City University.

 

  • For more than 25 years he has championed materials research that links the aerospace and nuclear to medicine, engineering and materials science. This culminated in the establishment of the Centre of Excellence in Advanced Materials at Birmingham City University where he was Director and developed the research programmes.

 

  • His research interests centre around design and testing of composite materials, and in particular the application to manufacturing processes. Frequently these are multiphase, with complex non-linear behaviours. He uses a range of computational and experimental techniques to understand both the fundamentals of processes and their application within industry.

 

  • He has been appointed by the European Commission, as the lead European Expert Assessor, to evaluate research applications for funding. He has reviewed grant applications for European countries. He has also had responsibilities to report on policy changes for European funding.

 

  • He has published over 100 papers in high impact rating journals, refereed conferences, patents and technical reports. His work is cited and has been awarded gold medal for his collaborative research activities. He has acted as general chair for five international conferences and has delivered over 10 keynote speeches in international conferences. 

 

  • He has a broad portfolio of grant funded work spanning application through to fundamentals including a large range of highly interdisciplinary projects with chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics and works with a wide range of industrial sectors. He has attracted over £1 million income through consultancy and sponsored research He has been awarded research funding/ sponsorship from numerous organisations, including EPSRC, Innovate UK, EU and companies from UK and abroad.

 

  • He has supervised many PhD candidates to successful completion and has acted as external examiner for undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate degrees at numerous HE Institutions and Universities in the UK and overseas including Engineering Council, King's College London, University of Portsmouth, Anglia Ruskin University and Birmingham City University.
