Prof Drew trained as a physicist, and has been working in astronomy and astrophysics research since obtaining a PhD at UCL in 1980.  Her early career contributions were to numerical radiation transfer modelling of winds from hot/young stars and accretion discs in interacting binaries and young stars.  She came to Herts in 2007, after 12 years at Imperial College and 8 years in Oxford.  She then served a 5-year term as the Director of the Centre for Astrophysics Research of the University from 2010 to 2015.  She has also taken the role of principal investigator for two digital optical photometric surveys (IPHAS, and VPHAS+, providing full coverage of the disc of the Milky Way, our own galaxy at 1 arcsec spatial resolution, and now particpates in the WHT/WEAVE project as a science team lead.  Since 1995 she has served as an editor for MNRAS, one of the world's leading peer-reviewed astronomical journals.
