Prof Drew trained as a physicist, and has been working in astronomy and astrophysics research since obtaining a PhD at UCL in 1980.  Her early career contributions were to numerical radiation transfer modelling of winds from hot/young stars and accretion discs in interacting binaries and young stars.  She is currently the Director of the Centre for Astrophysics Research (CAR) of the University, a research group made up of over 60 staff, postdoctoral researchers and graduate students.  She came to Herts in 2007, after 12 years at Imperial College and 8 years in Oxford.  She is currently the Principal Investigator of two digital optical photometric surveys (IPHAS, and VPHAS+, providing full coverage of the disc of the Milky Way, our own galaxy at 1 arcsec spatial resolution.  Since 1995 she has served as an editor for MNRAS, one of the world's leading peer-reviewed astronomical journals.
