Overview

Stratis Sofianos received his BA (Bakk. Art.) degree in Composition and Advanced Music Theory from the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria in 2005 and MA in Composition for Film and TV from Bristol University, UK in 2006. While working as a composer, arranger, conductor, and sound engineer, he co-founded the multimedia composition company Handmade Music in 2007. In 2008, he joined the Media Processing & Biometrics Lab at the University of Hertfordshire (UH) in order to carry out his PhD project in the field of unsupervised extraction of singing voice from stereophonic recordings. Since 2010, Sofianos is a visiting lecturer in both Audio Programming and Film Music Composition at UH while he continues to be active in the area of music composition for Film and TV. In 2012 he joined the Optical Networks Research Group (ONRG) of UH as a Research Fellow under the auspices of the FP7 project ACCORDANCE, where he is developing platforms for the evaluation of novel wireless technologies. His research interests include blind source separation in audio, 4G wireless networking, audio programming, and film composition.
