As a member of the University STRI Research Centre, the School Algorithms, AI and Information Research Groups, Dr Springs research interests include Classical and Quantum Based Security for Distributed Systems, (Cybersecurity, Voting Schemes, Cryptography, Security Protocols, Risk, Algorithms, Programming Paradigms), Modelling and Problem Solving Strategies, Quantum AI and Quantum Stochastic Theory. Dr Springs PhD students are engaged in areas relating to the above. Dr Spring was co-author on the first paper written on quantum based voting schemes.

From a lecturing perspective Dr Spring is involved in a range of modules that include cybersecurity at both the postgraduate level (Distributed Systems Security, Secure Systems Programming, Computational Algorithms and Paradigms) and the undergraduate level (Quantum Computing, Cyber Security).

From a teaching perspective he has taught in primary, secondary, further, and higher education delivering sessions in both mathematics and computer science.  He has developed and delivered a significant number of modules and courses for both on campus and online students in higher education.

In addition to teaching and lecturing in the UK, Dr Spring has also delivered short courses in India relating to both Classical and Quantum Networks and to Classical and Quantum Cryptography. Dr Spring has presented talks on quantum distributed systems to the International Quantum Structures Association; to students and graduates at Chitkara University in the Punjab, India; and to the British Computer Society back in the UK.
