To investigate how ruminant production and marketing systems can maximise quality food production and economic viability, while promoting sustainable land use and management including environmental and antimicrobial stewardship.

Research questions:
Acknowledging and appreciating the body of knowledge on the environmental consequences of livestock food systems, our research is driven by a need for improved and more sustainable beef and sheep systems.
The research questions are:
1. What are the impacts of beef and sheep production and marketing systems in terms of environment, drug and chemical use, animal health and welfare, economic efficiency and social welfare?
2. How can UK beef and sheep production and food marketing systems be economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable?
3. What are recommendations for policy changes to support improved and more sustainable beef and sheep production systems?
