Abstract

Obesity prevention and management in children is a major public health concern
with nearly one third of 2-15year olds in England being categorised as overweight or obese (HSE, 2011). Clinical and personal data collected during a 3-week, residential, weight loss camp for 19 girls aged 11-13 years, run in the 1970s were recently given to the research team by the supervising dietitian, thus providing the opportunity to follow up participants and staff involved in the camp. This study focuses on the supervising dietitian’s views and experiences, then (1971) and
now (2012), in the context of the clinical effectiveness and practicalities of supervising such a camp
