Abstract

The monograph argues for understanding art practice as a knowledge-forming discipline and through this prism, art's unique role and value in society. The series of interlinked essays explore the ethics and politics of art practice, how disciplines can be understood as successfully navigating the pressures of neoliberalism, the type of knowledge that art practice creates, while including a critique of the academicisation of art. The monograph culminates in offering a more ecological interconnected way of understanding art and art's role in society, moving us from the current teleological model of progress with all its sexist and racist implicit assumptions to something else.
