Abstract

As a contribution to the book, Rural Urbanism (2019), the chapter reflects on the way food and place design interconnect in rural and urban peripheral contexts. Shaped from an earlier symposium presentation and subsequent report, the chapter explores food at a range of scales; employing the framing concept of convivial green space (Parham. 1992) to analyse gastronomy, pleasure and place within a sustainability paradigm. It is argued that attention to conviviality can help rural and peri-urban space express and support a socially rich, food-centred everyday life.
