Overview

Amin Hosseinian-Far is a Professor of Systems Thinking at Hertfordshire Business School, University of Hertfordshire. Previously, he held the positions of Professor of Systems Thinking and Deputy Head of the Department of Business Systems and Operations at the University of Northampton (UON). During his time at UON, he was the founding member of the Systems, Analytics, and Business Intelligence (SABI) research group and also served as the Head of the Centre for Sustainable Business Practices (CSBP).

Prior to joining UON, Amin held lecturing and research roles at the Open University, Leeds Beckett University, the University of East London, a private higher education institution, and a strategy research firm. Since 2009, he has been actively engaged in teaching, research, and scholarship within UK higher education institutions. His research interests are at the intersections of systems thinking, information systems applications, analytics, and modelling, with applications in various fields, particularly sustainability. He has also led or contributed to a number of evidence synthesis, e.g., Systematic Review, projects and publications in a variety of fields. Amin has successfully led, or contributed to securing external research funding in excess of £1.1 million.

Amin has supervised 15 doctoral students to successful completion. In 2020, he was awarded the UON’s Research Diamond Award for Excellence in Doctoral Supervision, recognising his significant support and advice to doctoral students. Amin has contributed to over 110 peer-reviewed publications, primarily in the forms of journal articles, conference papers, and book chapters. His contributions were notably recognised during the pandemic when he contributed to the horizon scanning of the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST). Furthermore, one of his co-authored systematic reviews has been cited by prominent organisations, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the Scottish Government, the World Bank group, the UK Parliament, the Publications Office of the European Union, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Amin has edited books and conference proceedings, and has served on numerous review boards and editorial committees of several international journals and conferences. He is the Founding Editor and Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Strategic Engineering (IJoSE), a former Associate Editor for the International Journal of Systems and Society, and a former Guest Editor for Special Issues in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (IJERPH), Smart and Sustainable Built Environment (Emerald), IJESDF (InderScience), and Systems (MDPI).

Professor Hosseinian-Far holds a BSc (Hons) in Business Information Systems from the University of East London, an MSc in Satellite Communications and Space Systems from the University of Sussex, and a PhD titled ‘A Systemic Approach to an Enhanced Model for Sustainability’ from the University of East London. He has been a Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) since 2011, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) since 2014, and a Senior Fellow of Advance-HE (HEA) since 2016. He is also an external associate of the Sustainability Research Institute (SRI) at the University of East London, UK, and the Public Transportation Systems (PTS) Research Group at RMIT University, Australia.
