Dr Bill Worthington

Bill has been Research and Scholarly Communications Team (RSC) Manager, Library and Computing Services, University of Hertfordshire, since forming the team in 2016.  

The RSC team provides research systems and information curation, good practice, and practical interventions for researchers in order to get the most from their published work. Bill leads the RSC team and works with other providers in the university to deliver a co-ordinated service catalogue of research support. Bill had the responsibiity for assuring data quality and compliance for research outputs for both REF2014 and REF2021.

Bill was formerly Group Leader in the Enterprise Application Consultants team, wherein he managed the systems and people that deliver the University's key business applications including Research systems, HR & Payroll, Finance, Document Management, Timetabling, Student Record System, Accommodation and Customer Relationship Management.

Bill led the University's Research Data Management activity and was project manager for two JISC funded projects on the JISCMRD Managing Research Data programme. This work catalysed change in people, policy, process and systems, and touched all stages of the research project lifecycle.

Prior to this Bill provided and managed information technology services for a variety of university clients, predominantly in the not-for-profit and government funded sectors; and was technology lead for i10, a multi-university knowledge exchange project in the East of England.

Bill has taught a variety of subjects in information technology and physical sciences at undergraduate level. Most recently Operating Systems, SQL, HTML & CSS. These are not so much specialisms, but they are useful as a placeholder to test new portal.
