Overview
Dr Bo Liu is a lecturer in MSc Environmental Management (Agriculture). Her main research interests are integrated control of crop pathogens and pests, especially Strawberry Powdery Mildew Podosphaera aphanis and the use of Silicon in sustainable crop management. She also has great interests in the field of ecology, environmental management, and biodiversity conservation.
Research interests
Sustainable management of horticultural/ agricultural crops. Plant diseases and integrated control of crop pests and pathogens (especially on UK horticulture crops). Control of strawberry powdery mildew and the use of biostimulant such as silicon to improve plant resilience. Her research projects include ‘’sustainable strawberry production and management including control of strawberry powdery mildew’, ‘silicon builds resilience in strawberry plants against both strawberry powdery mildew and two-spotted spider mites’, ‘development and evaluation of a decision support system to control SPM epidemics with fewer fungicide sprays’.
Commercial and public engagement
An academic coordinator for a Citizen Science Project eDNA Hub at the University of Hertfordshire Bayfordbury Campus. The purpose of the Hub is to work with Citizen Scientists to promote simplified environmental DNA techniques for biodiversity monitoring and associated activities to the local community. Recent project: An experiment in democratising environmental DNA workflows for biodiversity monitoring and natural habitat conservation, published on Journal of British Islands Bats, Vol. 4: 61-70.
