Personal profile
Overview
Chris Mowles is Director of the Doctor of Management programme, an internationally renowned professional doctorate programme which draws on insights from the complexity sciences. Since 2000 when the programme started, it has produced 72 doctoral graduates. On the programme, students take something going on for them at work as the subject/object of study, so their thesis is of direct benefit to them and their organisation. Chris also teaches on the MBA and MA programmes at UH, and has taught at Copenhagen Business School, Aalborg University, the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), as well as giving guest lectures at Nyenrode University in Holland, the Open University in Holland, the University of Southern Denmark, Portsmouth University and the University of San Jose, Costa Rica.
He has successfully supervised 17 doctoral students to completion and has examined 18 doctoral theses.
Chris has worked as a consultant with organisations supporting them to develop strategy, evaluate aspects of their work, or cope with particularly difficult or stuck situations. He has worked extensively with senior managment teams and is particularly interested in the functioning of groups. Clients include the NHS, Oxford University, the Department for International Development, the UN, the Government of China, IFAD and many of the large international NGOs (Oxfam, Save the Children, WaterAid, Action Aid). He has also started an experiential learning programme for teachers-managers in schools.
Chris has Group Work Practitioner (GWP) status with the Institute of Group Analysis and is continuing his training there. He teaches on the IGA foundation course in Oxford and is keen to bring together the disciplines of group analysis and practice-based learning.
This is the blog for Complexity and Management and Chris' personal blog is here.
