Teaching specialisms

I am the Programme Leader for the BEd and also professional lead for Primary Science and Primary Art and Design. I currently teach across the BEd, PGCE and School Direct programmes. 

I am part of the leadership team for Primary Science Quality Mark.

 

Research interests

My current areas of interest are:

The use of drama as an Assessment for Learning (AfL) tool within primary science.

Using a creative, link-learning approach to teaching science.

The development of ‘art conversations’ within the primary classroom as part of the ‘art journey’.

 

Commercial and public engagement

I provide Science and Art and Design CPD (Continuing Professional Development) for in-service teachers.

 

Overview

David Allen has worked in education for the last twenty years. During this time he has taught in primary and middle schools in the United Kingdom and in Spain. David has been deputy head teacher in two schools and has taken part in advisory work at county level.  He is currently Senior Lecturer for Primary Science and Primary Art and Design and the Programme Leader for the BEd at the University of Hertfordshire.
