Overview
David Winter is Professor Emeritus of Clinical Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire, where he was formerly Programme Director of the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Most of his career was spent as a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist in the UK National Health Service, including as Head of Clinical Psychology Services in Barnet. He has held visiting positions at universities in various countries, acted as an advisor to the World Health Organization, provided consultation in mental health settings in Sierra Leone, and is currently Director of Postgraduate Programmes at Colombo Institute of Research and Psychology. He is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society and past Chair of its Psychotherapy Section, as well as of the Experiential Constructivist Section and Research Committee of the UK Council for Psychotherapy. He is President of the George Kelly Society, an Associate Editor of the Journal of Constructivist Psychology, and Research Editor of the European Journal of Psychotherapy and Counselling. He has around 200 publications, primarily on personal construct psychology and psychotherapy research, and his books include Personal and Relational Construct Psychotherapy (with H. Procter); Trauma, Survival and Resilience in War Zones: The Psychological Impact of War in Sierra Leone and Beyond (with R. Brown, S. Goins, and C. Mason); The Wiley Handbook of Personal Construct Psychology (edited with N. Reed); Toward a Radical Re-Definition of Psychology: The Selected Works of Miller Mair (edited with N. Reed); Personal Construct Psychotherapy: Advances in Theory, Practice and Research (edited with L. Viney); A Workbook of Group-Analytic Interventions (with D. Kennard and J.P. Roberts); Personal Construct Psychology in Clinical Practice: Theory, Research and Applications; and Personal Styles in Neurosis: Implications for Small Group Psychotherapy and Behaviour Therapy (with T.M. Caine and O.B.A. Wijesinghe).
