Research interests

I am an anthropologist, and my research interests have focused on the anthropology of history and the past through examining how contemporary British magical religious Witches and Wiccan have navigated histories of their movement.

My anthropological research explores the practices and politics of historical knowledge and how it is drawn through both official and informal sources. I am interested in how the past is constituted through dynamic and everyday historicity and senses of temporality, that includes emotional and sensory sources, the imagination, ritual, material culture, landscape, and folklore as well as archived sources and expert interpretations.

My longitudinal fieldwork is partly located at the Museum of Witchcraft in Cornwall.

In 2021 I co-founded NAoHH (Network for an Anthropology of History & Heritage) which is part of the Association of European Social Anthropologists (EASA).
