Research interests

My research interests centre on areas of cognition and neuropsychology. The focus of my research is on cognitive functioning in various mental health problems.

Overview

My long-standing and current research focuses particularly upon cognitive probelms associated with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Schizophrenia.

For over twenty years, I have been using meta-analysis to investigate various psychological and medical interventions for mental health problems. This has resulted in publications on the use of psychological interventions (such as CBT, mindfulness) for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, binge eating disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder. Alongside, I have also condcuted recent meta-analyses looking at medcial interventions including the use of transcranial magnetic stimulation for OCD, the use of electroconvulsive therapy for depression, SSRIs for OCD.

I also have strong recent interests that have developed recently for looking at cognitive function in relation to belief in the paranormal.

Also the visual illusions that arise in the strange face in the mirror paradigm and what such illusions might tell us about visual processing, face processing, and visual hallucinations.

I am on the editorial boards of multiple journals (Comprehensive Psychiatry, British Journal of Clinical Psychology, PlosOne, PeerJ) and have published over 150 peer-reviewed papers.
