A highly experienced academic leader and clinical researcher, he holds a PT (HCPC), MSc, PhD, PGcertHE, and a Senior Fellowship with the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). While his extensive background is rooted in musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy, his current leadership role focuses heavily on pioneering research in healthcare service delivery and workforce management.

Research interests

  • Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS): He has a long-standing clinical interest in the assessment, clinical significance, and rehabilitation of PFPS, which was the focus of a £62,000 RCBC-Wales funded project.
  •  Sports Rehabilitation and Biomechanics: His work investigates lower-limb kinematics, physical capacities, and inter-limb asymmetries in athletic populations, notably focusing on return-to-sport readiness for professional soccer players following ACL reconstruction.
  •  Long-Term Condition Management: Kostas researches therapeutic pacing strategies, nutritional self-management, and clinical interventions for conditions such as ME/CFS and Chronic Kidney Disease.

Teaching specialisms

  • Research Methodology: Over his academic career, he has designed, tutored, and led modules in research methodology, design, and processes. This is complemented by his extensive history of supervising BSc, MSc, and PhD students across quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method projects.
  •  Clinical & Applied Sciences: His accumulated teaching portfolio includes leading modules in Advanced Anatomy and Client Assessment, Pathophysiology, Upper and Lower Limb Kinesiology, and Pathological Conditions of the Musculoskeletal System.
  •  Sports Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation: He has extensive past experience delivering comprehensive instruction in Sports Physiotherapy, Rehabilitation and Conditioning Techniques, Advanced Player Management, and Kinesiotherapy.

Commercial and public engagement

  • Academic Quality Assurance: He has served extensively as an External Examiner for multiple UK universities (including Coventry University, Bucks New University, Bradford University, and Canterbury Christ Church University), overseeing collaborative partnerships and professional practice programs.
  • He acts as a Book Editor, having published "The Sports Rehabilitation Therapists’ Guidebook" through Routledge to guide current and future practitioners, and has additionally authored several other book chapters.

  •  Clinical Practice and Collaboration: Maintaining active professional registrations with the HCPC and CSP, his research has historically involved direct collaborations and honorary roles within NHS Trusts, bridging the gap between academia and front-line clinical practice.
  • Student-Led Clinic Management: He has actively engaged with the public and local communities by acting as a student-led clinic manager across multiple Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
