Overview

Nathainel Virgo is an interdisciplinary researcher with a bachelor's degree in computer science, a masters degree in mathematical ecology, a doctorate in informatics, and long-standing research interests in artificial life, statistical mechanics, the origin of life, and the scientific understanding of what makes a system goal-directed.

More recently Virgo has developed an interest in the applications of category theory, both to fundamental scientific questions and to practical real-world applications and is contributing to the development of applied category as a field, with applications in probability theory and control theory.
