Mr Peter Thomas

I am a Collaborative Partnership Leader for a number of Mass Communications Programmes, a Principal Lecturer in Media and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), specialising in website design and responsive design for mobile devices. I have extensively researched in the area of smartphone use for mobile navigation of short walks and in 2015 presented my conference paper, “Country Walks: A multimedia and cloud computing approach to navigating short country walks.” At the Technology, Knowledge and Society conference at the University of California, Berkeley.

In 2016, I designed an app for incoming students on the Mass Communications Programme. The app was successful in providing students with a set of tools for navigating their first weeks on campus and included a full reading list, a student handbook, a calendar of events and links to academic services. This innovation was so popular that other programmes are now forward planning for the introduction of their own apps for the beginning of the next academic year.
