Research interests

Pilar's research focuses on urban cultural productions by racialised women in Latin America, and how they help us interrogate space, culture, and oppression. Using an interdisciplinary framework she is interested in urban music, street art, and performance by Black, Indigenous and Mestiza women in Mexico, Chile, Colombia, and Latin America more broadly.

Her research on urban culture has explored the strategies women artists use to respond to colonial, capitalist and patriarchal hierarchies in their communities and territories, as well as the dissident ways they redefine space. Her research uses qualitative and decolonising methods.
