Overview

I am a literary-cultural scholar working at the intersections of gender & sexuality and health and wellbeing, within the overall context of literature, media, communication, & cultural studies (including rhetorical studies).

My research interests lie in LGBT+ belonging and marginalisation, GBMSM (gay, bisexual, and men who have sex with men) sexual wellbeing and identity, and the use of autobiographical writing, film, media, & other forms of representation to explore these themes.

Methodologically, my research utilises textual, theoretical, rhetorical, lexicographical, and historical analysis, while adopting a comparative lens between cultures (Western & non-Western and hybrids). I am also interested in co-productive research with experts by experience, and use workshops, focus groups, and semi-structured interviews to generate new perspectives.

My research on gender & sexuality draws upon a range of interpretive knowledge bases in the humanities, social and human sciences, to increase dialogue between disciplinary approaches to similar topics, while always highlighting the value and importance of the arts, media, and culture for understanding and experiencing human sexuality.
