Research interests

Shady S. Refaat received his B.A.Sc., M.A.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Cairo University, Giza, Egypt, in 2002, 2007, and 2013, respectively. He has over 12 years of industrial experience, having served as an Engineering Team Leader, Senior Electrical Engineer, and Electrical Design Engineer across a range of electrical engineering projects. For more than 11 years, he worked as an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University. He currently holds the position of Reader in Electrical Power Engineering at the University of Hertfordshire and also serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at Texas A&M University.

He is a Senior Member of the IEEE, a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and a member of the Smart Grid Center – Extension in Qatar (SGC-Q). He has authored over 220 journal and conference publications, one patent, and one book. His research interests include electrical machines, power systems, smart grids, big data analytics, energy management systems, power grid reliability, electric machinery, fault detection, condition monitoring, and the development of fault-tolerant systems. Over the past decade, he has led and contributed to numerous scientific research projects, successfully translating research into practical solutions.
