Personal profile

Overview

Research interests fall into three distinct categories:

1. The use of effective and ineffective advocacy in magazines.

2. The complex relationship between women's magazines and feminism.

3. Ways to improve the teaching and learning experience of students from non-traditional backgrounds e.g. BME, students with special needs, working class students.

4. Enterpreneurship, based on my book, Think Yourself Rich, which was also a BBC series and consisted of interviews with successful entrepreneurs and psychological analysis of why they were successful

These are also my teaching interests. I have won a Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning for a magazine project on work experience co-created with students and have supported students to work with clients from local charities on media projects.

Commercial and public interests.

I am an award winning journalist. You can find links to my latest articles on my Linked In profile. I am also a media consultant to Youth Talk, a charity which provides counselling to young people in St Albans and Harpenden and have advised them on their social media and online strategy. I have also been a consultant editor for clients such as Tesco and Barclays but do not have any blue-chip clients currently.
