Overview

Dr Sooda Ramalingam is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science. She is the Programme Leader for the BSc Digital Technology (Computer Technology and Networks), and the Degree Apprenticeship (Electronics) programmes.

She is the Chair of the IEEE International Carnahan Conference on Security Technology-2021 (IEEE ICCST2021).

Research interests

Dr Ramalingam's research expertise covers Computer Vision and Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Fuzzy Logic as applied to Biometrics (3D Face Recognition, document forensics), Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ADAS). More recenetly, she is working in the areas of Blockchain and IoT Security with applications in Renewable Energy and AgriTech Supply Chain.

She is also the Joint Director of the Smart Mobility Unit at the University pf Hertfordshire (UH). which seeks to make transport an integral part of the process of community planning and change. More locally, the Unit is leading the work to make the University’s estate a ‘smart transport campus’. She is the Programme Leader for the BSc Digital Technology (Computer Technology and Networks) and Degree Apprenticeship (Electronics) programmes.

Teaching specialisms

Her teaching interests include Intelligent Sytems and Robotics, Data Security and Biometrics, Operating Systems - Design and Principles, Meta Data and Markup Languages, Interactive Programming and Programming for Engineers. She is the module leader for some of the above modules.

Commercial and public engagement

Dr Ramalingam has been working with small and micro-industries in digitising the business process. This includes bringing together modern AI & Machine Learning techniques and Blockchain.
