Personal profile

Research interests

Non-profit management and business history.  Having worked in the heritage sector for 30 years Dr Davies has a particular interest in how museums and archives are managed.  Her current research focuses on performance indicators in the non-profit cultural heritage sector and the use of historic collections in the 21st century.

Teaching specialisms

Dr Davies teaches and supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students.  She is the Module Leader for a core level 6 module, Business and Commerical Awareness. 

She is supervising the following doctoral candiates.

  1. Sarah Buckingham, DHeritage.  Her thesis is 'Disneyland or Wasteland? Avoiding Both in Post-Confilct Heritage Reconstruction' was successfully examined in 2024. 
  2. Madeline McLeod-Reynolds, DHeritage. The working title of her thesis is 'Heritage Futures: Reinventing collections stewardshire for creative placemaking'
  3. Ian Sudlow-McKay, DHeritage. The working title of his thesis is, 'University Heritage Collections: An examination of their changing roles, functions and values'.
  4. Sarah Goldsmith, DBA. Her working title is, 'Increased Chances of Project Success through Project Wellbeing: A Global Project Solution'.

 

Commercial and public engagement

Dr Davies occassionally works as a freelancer in the heritage sector offering training and research. Her commissioned work includes the 'Data Driven Museums' report and this 5 minute video about key peformance indicators in museums - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06_oZWCCM64
