Overview

Dr Syed Mudassir Hussain is currently a Programme Leader for Degree Apprenticeship Electrical and Electronic Engineering as well as a Senior Lecturer within the School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Hertfordshire, UK. He has over 15 years of teaching and research experience and previously held the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering at BUITEMS, Pakistan. He is an approved PhD supervisor recognised by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.

Dr Hussain completed his PhD at the Institute of Microelectronics, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, where his research focused on the design and optimisation of a visually assisted smart trial for hip joint arthroplasty. He has published more than 15 peer-reviewed papers in reputable journals and conferences and has received Best Paper Presentation awards at international conferences. He has also contributed to a European Union-funded consortium project as a legal signatory and ICT expert.

He serves as a reviewer for several leading international journals and conferences, including IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Circuits and Systems (TBioCAS), IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems (T-ITS) and ACM Transactions on Autonomous and Adaptive Systems (TAAS), IEEE ISCAS, IEEE APCCAS and IEEE ICE cube

Dr Hussain was a member of the National Electronics Policy 2022 formulation group under Pakistan’s Ministry of Science and Technology. He has delivered professional development training on outcome-based education (2021) at BUITEMS and has contributed to the organisation of international conferences. He has also acted as an external examiner for a PhD in the UK.

In 2024 and 2025, he visited the Changzhou Institute of Technology, Jiangsu, China – a partner college of the University of Hertfordshire – where he contributed to teaching the CDIO module.

Dr Hussain holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from the University of Hertfordshire and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
