Overview
Dr Tazeen Shabana Syed received her PhD in Wireless Communication and Networking and MSc, Computer Networking (distinction) from the University of Bedfordshire, UK. She obtained BEng (first class) in Electronics and Communication from Madras University, India. Her PhD thesis is on context aware cognitive radio networks specifically in physical layer energy efficient spectrum sensing, designing energy efficient medium access control protocols and cooperative spectrum sensing implementing fuzzy logic. She has published her research in reputable high impact factor journals as well as Book Chapters (including IEEE Vehicular Transactions, IEEE Systems, and IEEE Communication Letters). Presented her MSc research paper which was based on VoIP - Quality of Service in Science and Information Conference, London. Obtained industrial CISCO certification in Computer Networking. She has also obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the University of Bedfordshire, UK. She has done Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from IGNOU, India.
Dr Tazeen joined University of Hertfordshire as a Lecturer in Computer Science (Computer Networking, Wireless Mobile & Multimedia Networking, and Operating Systems) in the School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science (SPECS). She is the Assistant Programme Leader for the MSc Modular, Advanced Computer Science course. She also plays the role of Student Academic Integrity Officer (SAIO) in the Computer Science department. She is a Fellow of The Higher Education Academy. Further Tazeen is a Race Equality Charter (REC) Champion representing the school (SPECS). She supervises final year projects for UG/PG students.
Her research interest is on cognitive radio systems, spectrum sensing, designing energy efficient MAC protocols, cooperative spectrum sensing, fuzzy logic, computer network security, 5G, IoT, Software Defined Networks (SDN). and M2M Communication. She is a member of the Algorithms Research Group and the Communication and Intelligent Systems research group in SPECS.
