Overview
Dr Wael Gorma received his PhD degree in electronic engineering from the University of York (UoY), York, UK. His PhD thesis is concerned with design, analysis and development of medium access control protocols for acoustic-based underwater sensor networks. He was a Research Associate with the Department of Electronic Engineering at UoY, working on the design and implementation of a Bio-inspired AUV for windfarm inspection as part of the RoboFish project, which is funded by by the EPSRC Supergen ORE Hub Flexible Fund Program, with additional support provided by East Coast Oil and Gas Engineering Ltd, and the UK Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult. He is currently a KTP Associate with the School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science (SPECS) at the University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, UK, and working for Ziath Ltd in Cambridge, UK, to design and implement innovative RFID solutions for the healthcare industry. Dr Gorma’s research embraces an innovative focus on interdisciplinary applications. His research interests and technical expertise in wireless communication include the development of novel communication protocols and algorithms for wireless sensor networks deployed in extreme environments. He has researched and executed projects that enable efficient adoption of acoustic and RF techniques in telecommunication, electronic, instrumentation and manufacturing industry. His work has been published and presented in high impact journals and leading international conferences.
