Personal profile

Overview

I am a historian of landscape, travel and cultural heritage, with a particular focus on nineteenth-century Britain and Italy. My research explores how mountains, cities and archaeological sites were imagined, represented and contested across art, literature, and science. I have published on the Dolomites, Victorian Venice, Romantic Egyptology and the cultural geographies of mountaineering. Currently Senior Lecturer and Co-Programme Leader in History at the University of Hertfordshire, I am also a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and have several enjoyed research fellowships in the UK and abroad.
