Overview
Dr Xenofon Tzounis , BSc,MSc,PhD,RD,FHEA
I have joined the University of Hertfordshire as a part-time lecturer in Nutrition and Dietetics in August 2017 and I am also working as a part-time band 6 Bariatric dietitian at a local NHS Trust, where I am also involved in dietetic student placement training. I have completed studies in Food Science (BSc), Nutrition and Dietetics (BSc), Food Quality Assurance (MSc) and my PhD research was on the effect of flavonoids in human gut health, and I continue to be interested on the contribution of the gut microbiota in human health.
I am a registered dietitian with the Health and Care Professions Council and I am now in the process of applying to become a registered nutritionist. A goal of my work is to develop and empower our graduates from both BSc Nutrition and BSc Dietetics to become excellent practitioners that will contribute to the promotion of evidence based practiced in nutrition and dietetics.
My main research interests are weight management and the effect on chronic related conditions (eg. diabetes, hypertension), behaviour change and the role of the gut microbiota on human health.

My main research interests are weight management, behaviour change and the role of the gut microbiota on human health. More specifically I am interested on the relationship between diet, eating behaviour and health with main focus on the factors that can affect food choice. In addition, I am currently interested on bariatric surgery and the short and long-term health benefits.
