Overview

Professor Yong Kang Chen (FIMechE, FHEA, CEng, PhD, MSc & BEng), a Professor in Applied Mechanics, is the research group leader in Energy and Sustainable Design and Head of Automotive, Mechanical and Mechatronic Division in the School of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Hertfordshire. His research expertise lies in modelling and simulations of materials and structural integrity. His main research themes include renewable energy and energy storage systems, optical nanomaterials, surface engineering of polymer nano-composites, and nano-fluid. A wide range of projects have been funded by EPSRC, Innovate UK, EU FP7 and industry with over £1.3 million. He was a work package leader in EU projects, such as MAAT & SHELL projects. He has published more than 85 technical refereed papers on various subjects in these fields, two chapters of two books, and two patents. He is a guest editor and an editorial board member of an International Journal of Modelling, Identification and Control. He also is an Editorial Board Member of Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering. He is a Fellow of The Institution of Mechanical Engineers and Higher Education Academy. He has delivered plenary addresses/keynote papers and invited lectures/seminars at more than 4 international conferences/workshops. He has reviewed technical papers for 20 international journals, and a member of the scientific committee for more than 6 international conferences.
