Dr Zoe Jeffrey is a full-time principal lecturer in the School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science at University of Hertfordshire. She received her BEng in Electronics and Computer Engineering and MSc in Nanotechnology and Nanoelectronics Devices at University of Surrey, UK in 2006 and 2007 respectively. She then completed her PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at University of Hertfordshire, UK in 2013 focusing on real time ANPR algorithms on ARM-DSP SoC platforms. She is a Chartered Engineer and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Zoe’s recent work has been recognised at the 2023 Vice-Chancellor's Awards as the Winner of ‘Business Impact Award’ for her work in the Knowledge Transfer Partnership Team for Ziath Ltd (Azenta). The work focused upon embedding AI and the use of barcodes in biosample management that enabled Ziath to provide a premium product to their existing customers and move into other markets.

Research Expertise

  • Her research interests are signal processing algorithms for object detection and recognition, custom computing and real time System-on-Chip solutions using ARM based processors, DSPs, FPGAs and GPUs. She is also interested in intelligent transportation systems and vehicular traffic management.
  • Worked on various Hardware and software technologies from ARM, National Instruments, NVIDIA, Texas Instruments and Xilinx, and she is competent in C, C++, JAVA, VHDL, Verilog HDL, OpenGL ES, MATLAB and LabVIEW programming.
  • Her latest research is focused on developing algorithms and applications requiring real-time performance on SoC platforms with machine learning (e.g., deep learning on ARM/DSP/FPGA).
