Spanish research project on the theory of action
Professor Daniel D. Hutto from the University is collaborating with a team of researchers in philosophy and sociology from different Spanish universities in a research project entitled 'Agency, Normativity and Identity: the Presence of the Subject in Action'. The project has received funding worth €44.800, plus a graduate scholarship from the Spanish Ministry of Innovation and Research. The project begins in January 2012 and will run until December 2014. Its aim is to widen the traditional notion of agential autonomy, taking into account three elements: firstly, the controversy about self-knowledge and the alleged transparency of mental states; secondly, a narrative model of intentions for action within a broader narrative model of what it is to be an agent; and thirdly, the social dimension of autonomy, following the idea that reasons must be meaningful for others.
