Analyse and Improve Spatial Layout of care homes (AISLA)

In early 2022 we completed the project AISLA - Analyse and Improve Spatial
Layout of care homes: informing retrofitting and net-zero policy for care homes. The project was funded by the UH QR-SPF fund for 2021/22 has laid a strong foundation for future impact to develop, through collaboration and engagement with stakeholders (Hertfordshire County and care homes regulators).
With this proposal, we aim at continuing this project, applying our findings to a concrete case study in close collaboration with St Elizabeth Centre in Hertfordshire (see letter of support) to generate a real-world impact. St Elizabeth’s is a large healthcare centre based in Much Hadham, Hertfordshire (link) that will soon undergo a substantial renovation of their facilities. This offers the perfect opportunity for us to apply our method to a real case study,
testing the right balance between our design criteria, and to strengthen existing partnerships, further developing our existing local and national networks and progressing the routes to impact that we already started. With St Elizabeth’s, we will co-produce research and knowledge exchange and, by developing an evidence-based business case, we will produce policy recommendations for healthcare regulators and policymakers.
