Automating searching cost data using fuzzy matching techniques

Landley Construction Consultants Ltd creates cost plans and provides quantity surveying services to the construction industry. Using multiple cost data resources to apply costs is a time consuming, therefore an expensive task because it’s currently a manual process. The aim of this project is to demonstrate the ability of AI to automate the collation of the cost data required to produce a cost plan, using the Company’s proprietary data and external data.
As the construction material cost data resources which the company use is in various formats, and it isn’t always the case that there would be a perfect match on item names, various information retrieval and search techniques (e.g. fuzzy searching, NLP) will be investigated.
