Project Details
Description
As a Business Analyst on the MIS reporting for the Operations team as part of the OPERA project, I played a critical role in replacing British Airways' legacy data warehouse system with a new, centralised, and integrated system. The project relied on IBM's MQSeries middleware, Teradata for processing data, and Informatica data integration tools for data extraction and loading. My primary responsibility was to gather and analyse business requirements from various stakeholders to design and implement MIS reports to support the Operations team's decision-making processes.
Key findings
The project faced high levels of unpredictability and risk due to the involvement of multiple systems, data sources, and data quality issues. Additionally, different stakeholders had different ideas about what data was critical for their decision-making processes, leading to conflicting requirements. Therefore, I had to work closely with the project manager and other stakeholders to ensure that the project's scope and objectives were well-defined, and the project was delivered on time and within budget.
