Description
This project comprises research about post-First World War theatre (1918-c1930) combining it with professional performance through creative collaboration with two renowned UK and US theatres. It rediscovers important plays from our cultural past and introduces them to audiences. The British strand is a production of The Truth about Blayds by A.A. Milne (1921). It is an example of how postwar theatre aimed to expose the previous generation’s Victorian hypocrisies. In the run up to the
centenary of Winnie the Pooh (2026) it also reveals Milne (a veteran of the war) as very different from the cuddly figure of popular imagination.
