Establishing a community of practice for dementia champions

The project aims to support the process of establishing and implementing a variety of Dementia Champion (DC) roles by creating a shared focus, addressing training and development needs and by creating an infrastructure that can support the achievement of dementia strategy linked implementation targets.

Findings suggested that if such initiatives are to be sustainable they need to be strategically placed within networks that can bring together service providers, educators and commissioners.
Expectations of ‘champion roles’ in dementia need to be re-visited, specifically in
relation to the remit of the role and the level of education, preparation and support required for Dementia Champions to become change agents in dementia care
