Exploring a co-created framework for effective discussions on intersectionality in social work practice

The UK social work workforce today is more diverse than the general population of England and Wales. However, key aspects of diversity remain underrepresented within the field of social work. The purpose of this project is to identify the challenges faced by professionals and service users in social work practice and social care settings, specifically concerning authentic conversations about ethnicity, race, sexuality/ LGBTQIA2S+. The project will be co-designed between professionals, people with lived experience and future social workers. It aims to lay the foundation for future research, benefiting the external stakeholders in social care and social work practice. The input from stakeholders’ experiences in relation to specific personal characteristics of race and sexuality will highlight the challenges faced and inform recommendations for best practices in social care settings.
