Description

Because of internal bleeds, people with bleeding disorders can experience pain that is both acute (at the time of a bleed) and chronic (due to damaged to joints). In collaboration with the Haemophilia Society we carried out an exploratory pilot study on the use and acceptability of a mindfulness-based pain management CD in patients with haemophilia and Von Willibrand disease. After two weeks using the CD participants reported a significant decrease in chronic pain and an improvement in their overall health. Although preliminary, this is very encouraging for patients and clinicians, not least because it is a simple, low cost and self-administered intervention.
