Nanoparticle-Assisted liquid biopsy based on Extracellular for Early Diagnosis of Glioblastoma NExGliO

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Glioblastoma (GB) is an aggressive and deadly brain tumour with limited survival prospects. Current diagnostic methods like MRI and histopathology have limitations in distinguishing GB from other brain conditions, often leading to misdiagnosis. Furthermore, monitoring tumour progression and assessing treatment responses remain challenging. A promising alternative is liquid biopsy, which could detect GB using non-invasive methods. One key approach in liquid biopsy is the use of extracellular vesicles (EVs), small particles that carry important molecular markers such as DNA, RNA, and proteins. EVs are abundant, stable, and can offer insights into a tumour’s genetic and epigenetic alterations, making them ideal for GB diagnosis and monitoring.
Among the EV-associated molecules, non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) like microRNAs, long non-coding RNAs, and circular RNAs show promise as biomarkers for GB. These molecules reflect the tumour’s progression and response to treatment, and their presence in EVs makes them accessible through liquid biopsy. The project described focuses on developing nanoparticle-based biosensors to detect EV-derived non-coding RNAs, aiming for early, accurate, and non-invasive GB detection. This will be achieved through advanced techniques like next-generation sequencing and AI-driven analysis, improving diagnostic accuracy and treatment monitoring.
The integration of AI with biosensor technology is expected to revolutionize GB diagnostics by providing precise, real-time insights, minimizing the need for invasive procedures. This multidisciplinary approach promises to enhance early detection, track tumour progression, and improve patient outcomes, offering a powerful tool for clinicians to manage this challenging disease.
