Description

A national survey of all maternity units in the UK and all HEIs which provide pre-registration midwifery education. The primary objectives of the first phase of the study are to determine compliance with recommended standards for the Newborn Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) and to identify which professionals are performing the examination, also to determine standards for screening and management of babies at risk of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) and those at risk of congenital heart disease (CHD). The second phase of the study will determine which HEIs are offering NIPE training as part of the pre-registration midwifery programme and how this is implemented.
