Project Details
Description
This student project, Performance East, was co-ordinated by Heidi Saarinen for second year Interior & Spatial Design (ISD) students, University of Hertfordshire. The project was based on the notion of space and place; configuring ideas-creation within unusual settings, in and around communities in East London and the Whitechapel Gallery.
The project consisted of a series of meetings at the Whitechapel Gallery - coincided in connection with Macuga's exhibition oat the gallery. ISD students participated, initiated and performed initial ideas informally within the gallery spaces and corridors. This activity was filmed and performance ideas were developed for design projects.
Letters, emails and films from the process and participation were shown as part of the official Bloomberg Commission exhibition at Whitechapel Gallery and consequent publication of the same title as the exhibition.
