Reimagining Access: Designing Inclusive Gardens for Caccamo Castle Towards UNESCO Recognition

This project supports a collaborative summer school in Caccamo (Italy), focused on inclusive design strategies to improve accessibility to the medieval castle through its surrounding gardens. In partnership with the University of Palermo and another international university, students and academics will co-design proposals with local stakeholders to inform sustainable interventions for improving accessibility. The engagement process will include local schools, civic representatives, and cultural institutions. The work aims to build consensus among residents, support dialogue with heritage authorities, and contribute to the town’s UNESCO application. Outcomes will be presented locally and at UH as part of the 2025 Summer School Impact Day, followed by a final exhibition and consultation event in 2026.
