Stories to Remember: Exploring Death and Memory in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter

We need to talk about death. Whilst inevitable, death is often a taboo subject that people cannot discuss. One way to overcome this barrier is the study of cemeteries and those buried within them, telling their stories and in so doing exploring themes of death and remembrance. This project will do just this, by exploring those buried in public graves within Birmingham’s Non-Conformist cemetery at Key Hill. Original research by Dr Penny Pritchard and the experience of modern funeral celebrants will be utilised within a series of workshops to produce a creative anthology of funeral sermons for the forgotten dead.
