SWIFT study of ‘green peas’ (Kaviraj and Ryan Houghton, Oxford)

Project Details

Description

Green peas are a class of local, compact, highly star-forming galaxies (recently identified by the Galaxy Zoo project), that are plausible analogues of compact star-forming galaxies in the early Universe. This project is using the SWIFT integral-field spectrograph to explore the morphologies of green peas (to determine, for example, if their star formation is merger-driven) and perform an unprecedented spatially-resolved analysis of the star formation and nebular emission in these systems.
